Marriage MAP Report

Karen and I have been home from the Pullman trip for a week now. Dakota and Kadin picked us up at the airport while Kasey and Polaris held down the fort. It was good to be greeted by our amazing sons.

We could not have asked for a better trip. Flights were easy, the Marriage MAP went well, our hosts (The Young Family) were awesome, everything just worked. Thanks for all your prayers and well-wishing.

I’ve been in recuperate mode for the week. My body aches and I’ve been forced to take more supplemental pain meds to avoid the very difficult pain. It’s definitely worth it. The sense of purpose and accomplishment I have is worth every bit of the discomfort and pain. Sitting around wondering what I can do with myself, not knowing what’s next, sucks the life right out of me. That’s when I get more anxiety and worry. Watching couples work through fun and difficult issues in their relationships and come away stronger is good for my soul. I love teaming up with Karen on things like this – she’s so good at her side of it. We both get to use our complimentary strengths to make a difference in others’ lives.

At the same time as above, I am getting weaker by the day and I have not been recovering from the weekend as much as we expected. Today I have a nagging suspicion that the weakness I feel is the cancer growing and that the end is drawing closer. It could just be I need way more recovery time than I think.

Friday I had a pretty scary fall. My shoe got caught on the patio cement and down I went. So far it looks like some very minor bruising and I got winded pretty badly. I did not hit my head so we are thankful it seems to have turned out to be no big deal. Thank you to all of you who pray for protection from these kinds of potential risks.

Lastly, this Wednesday we meet with the architects, contractors and people to make final plans for the RV pad/foundation. We are hoping to get a road mix foundation put down now for the RV but with allowance for footers and a foundation for a future addition on the house as an in-law suite for my parents.

  1. God is still working through you and Karen. You two are a team made by God and with His blessing. Now it’s time you get some strength back. Now is a rest period. You earned it so relax and enjoy it.

  2. The marriage weekend was a blast, you guys did a great job, it was great to listen in as you shared.

Pick your feet up when you walk, and you won’t trip over the concrete.

Looking forward to seeing you guys soon keep pressing on!!

    Love you!!

  3. Praying for you Wes! God is so at work in you and your family. Wanted to ask you to pray for my daughters f-I-l Joe who is also got last stage cancer. He recently had a bout of sepsis and then last week broke his shoulder. I’m praying for him to come to Christ and spoke to him about making his peace with God. He’s in His hands. ❤️🙏

  4. Glad that the weekend went well; it is encouraging to hear about God’s work. Sorry that you aren’t recovering quickly. Praying for you all.

  5. We are so thankful that Wes didn’t try to protect his fall by using his hands. Most likely, a wrist could have been broken. We are suspecting that his ribs my be bruised and that is something that takes a lot of time healing for someone without cancer.

We see God’s hand in all the plans for the addition. Our contractor is very honest and listens to everything we are looking for. He has done so much leg work, calling and conversing with architects, sun-contractors, etc.

I would appreciate prayers for Aaron, our contractor:
I want God to bless him, personally, and his business. I will be telling him this so he will have the opportunity to see what God is doing for him.

    1. Lifting Aaron in prayer & can’t wait to hear from you that God knocked his socks off!
      God is Awesome!

    2. We have been praying for Aaron — he is an answer to a very specific prayer Mark and I prayed to God with expectation and boldness!! Love watching God work in this story!! We love y’all and miss you like crazy!! Carol & Mark

    3. We will be praying for Aaron as well so that his eyes will be opened to the amazing things God has in store for him. Much love to all of you and many many prayers.

  6. Thrilled to hear that your ministry went well. I am so thankful to the Lord and will pray for your “recovery” from the intense time of sharing and travel. As my brother Bob, who is terminal with fibrosis of the lungs, says, “God is not keeping me alive to do nothing. “So he has continued to teach and travel with 24/7 oxygen. You amaze me just as he amazes me. Praying for you and the family every day.

  7. We so enjoyed being a part of the marriage map again, and God was good to answer all prayers to sustain you through it! You did great!!! You and Karen make such an awesome team! Thank you for these updates. Continued prayers for you! 🙏

  8. Wes I miss you and Karen so much. You are in my prayers. Sending you both much love.

  9. I’m so glad you got to do ministry Wes! I pray every day will be meaningful and worthwhile, in your eyes, as well as the Lord’s!

  10. I first of all want you to know you and your family are in my prayers. Second I would like to thank you for showing us how to live in adversity with our faith. I know things aren’t easy for you and I have so much respect for what you are going through. I just wanted you to know that when and if I am ever in your position that I am able to reflect the love and faith of Christ to others the way you have to all of us. God bless you we love you and the family

  11. I’m glad you guys were able to get away together🤍. I’m sad that you fell recently. I’m more sad that you sense the end is coming. You are so mature. I admire how you can speak of the future and plan for it too. You are more courageous than possibly anyone I know. 🤍

  12. Hi Wes and Karen,

I know you don’t know me. I know Jason and Lisa Stonehouse. But, I’ve been following your journey since Jason shared about you.

As you write about putting down a foundation, I can’t help but share that I’ve been reading 1 Corinthians 3 a few times in the last week and again this morning. 1 Corinthians 3:10-11 says, “By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as a wise builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should build with care. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ.”

There’s something powerful knowing Jesus is building His Kingdom on His foundation. I’m not going to try to find any words to speak what the Lord is trying to speak to you specifically. He just asked me to share these verses with you today.

May the Lord Himself be your foundation and build all He plans to build through His workers.

  13. You both are such an inspiration! Praying continually over you both and the clan 😉 Lots of hugs your way!
