Karen and I left the Pocono’s this morning at 4:55am. Our official drive West has begun. Thanks to Joe and Carol Sullivan for their hospitality and generosity. Joe and I each turned 40 and 50 recently and missed each other’s parties so we “celebrated” on our way out of town. He grilled me London Broil, my favorite!
Our first gas stop at 6:14am revealed low tire pressure on one trailer tire. It was a faint 20 psi, a far cry from the 50 it should be. We filled it and the tank and headed off. One hundred thirty miles later, we needed gas. We averaged 6.44 mpg! We were in the mountains for the first part of that, so we will see if we can do better than that on the long haul. Another check on the tire revealed 35 psi. We filled it and wondered if it was time to put on the spare. Instead, we continued down the road, hoping for a place to have it plugged professionally, knowing that Sunday AM was not the best time to expect to find one.
About thirty miles down the road, we saw a Shell gas station and pulled in. They had a shop for big rigs and it was open! The truck and trailer are sitting in a bay right now being worked on. Karen and I are sitting in the restaurant drinking some very dreamy, creamy hot chocolate.
I told the guy at the counter in the shop that we are headed to CA and just left this AM. He chuckled and said, “This isn’t a good start!”
I smiled and laughed with him, but inside I was not the least bit discouraged. We know who guides the trip. Hey, we still don’t have a home to arrive to, so what’s a little low tire pressure!

PS – We still get people on a regular basis who tell us they “stop checking your blog because we check and there is nothing new.” We apologize that we don’t update enough. You can avoid this by subscribing to the blog. In the top right of the website it says, “Subscribe.” If you put your email in there and hit submit, you will get an email every time we update. Then you don’t have to keep checking.
God is already showing you He is in control. He gave you the wisdom to stop regularly to check the tire pressure, and gave you that gas station just when you needed it, before the tire went completely flat. God is good, all the time.
Might as well make it worthy of a Coddington adventure. 🙂
Praying that all goes well and that you when you get here, you have a wonderful home!
Wes & Karen, I am loving getting updates from your “Abrahamic Journey” across the states. Your walk of faith is having serious impact on my walk of faith — and being a pastor that means you are influencing 100’s of others!
Praying that Day 2 on the road has been less eventful……God’s got your back!!
Missing you already!! 🙁 Karen that is….LOL…Just a joke….really Wes…I miss you too!!
