Wes Having Emergency Surgery – 5/27/11 – 1:45pm

Wes spent the last 24 hours in excruciating pain with very few pockets of time where he wasn’t clenching his hospital bed in tremendous pain.  This morning he had a C/T Scan and the results of the scan show that in his lower abdomen just below the new kidney there is an internal Hematoma. This means that there is at least blood and possibly other liquids (like urine) collecting and it could press on the new kidney and cause damage.  Apparently, this is the source of his pain. The issue is complicated by all the blood thinners Wes is on the doctors don’t know exactly how they are going to treat it until they go in.

In the next few hours Wes will be going in for emergency surgery to have an external drain put in.  It will be attached to a bag on his leg and depending on what liquids come out, it may remain there for few days or a few months.  For sure, it will extend Wes’ hospital stay for a few more days.  This surgery should end the pain.

I had a sleepless night last night.  I couldn’t sleep knowing that Wes was in the hospital with so much pain.  I woke up in the middle of the night with dry heaves and feeling very weary.  This morning my friend Barb came over to the house to help get the kids off to school.  She also brought me down to the hospital so I could be with Wes.  As well, my friend Denise picked up Kasey so she could play with her daughter for the day.

Obviously this is a bit of a set back and a discouragement but an encouragement that we know what it is.  Please just continue to pray that this will give us opportunities to grow in our faith and make God’s name famous.

PS- the new kidney is doing great!  This will help protect it.

  1. Karen – you are both such troopers! We’re praying that the surgeons will have knowledge and wisdom beyond their own comprehension and that they will clearly see God’s blessing on you, Wes and the whole family. We pray to you will experience His Strength and Grace which is sufficient for you and that the Dr’s and staff will experience the full measure of God’s omnicience and omnipotentence through you.

  2. Praise God for clarity!

Praying for wisdom and skill for the docs and for Wes and you for strength

  8. Karen & Wes – I am not one to go on-line to write, but I do feel that it is important that you know as many people as possible who are praying for you. We have a Home Group and have consistently used the messages In your “Coddington Tribe” to pray for you over the past year or so (since I began receiving your blog) Your courage and faith have been inspirational to so many people. The faith talks you have shared have moved us to tears often – it reminds us of the importance of trusting God even in the midst of incredible adversity. Our group meets tonight and we will certainly continue to be praying for Wes – for skill and wisdom for his doctors, for healing and release from pain, and for continued spiritual strength and faith as you walk through this difficult path. For Karen – for God’s strength and peace as you walk this path with your beloved husband and as you continue to meet the needs of your children. For Doug and Grace and your families and friends – that they would be blessed as they minister to your needs and lift you before our loving Heavenly Father. God bless you – we love you. In Christ…

  11. It’s 3:35 and hope that all has gone well. Our wonderful God is seeing you all through this. I can’t read the blogs without a cry to the Lord for respite for all of you. His will be done in all things. He is giving you the faith to trust Him through it all.
