The Swedish Fish Game

Every Wednesday is our family night. We rotate who is in charge and tonight was Kasey’s night. She decided to play The Swedish Fish Game, which was invented by her a couple months ago and has quickly become our family favorite. Here’s how to play, give it a try:

1. Get a set of color cards from a Candy Land game or make your own. There are cards with a single color square and cards with double color squares (ex. red cards have either one red square or two red squares). Each color of the rainbow is represented, so there are 12 kinds of cards.

2. Put the cards in a bucket and mix them around.

3. Each person takes turns pulling a card out without looking.

4. Which ever card they pick, they have to do the pre-determined action or take a food item.

5. The double color cards each represent a different food items and the single color cards require an action.

Here’s an example:
Red- Everyone has to compliment you
Orange- Sing a song or do a dance
Yellow – Imitate someone in the family

Double Green – Swedish Fish
Double Blue – Gold Fish crackers
Double Purple – Mini Marshmallows

Tonight, we all had to compliment Kadin and with a straight face and as sincere as you can be, Kasey leaned across the table and told him, “I love how your heart feels for my songs.”

Kasey is always singing something real or something she made up and Kadin often finds her singing “less than optimal” for his comfort. So we thought this was just perfect and we all laughed, even Kadin.

  1. That’s hysterical…wish I got there a little bit earlier to have shared this laugh with you all. I love the songs that Kasey Rae just starts singing that don’t make any sense but she sings them with such feeling…just warms my heart!! It was great hanging with you tonight even if it was for only about half an hour! I will miss the opportunity to just pop by if you move all the way to California….my heart breaks every time I think about it…..just sayin!!

  2. Love it! We’re going to rotate that into a game night in the near future!

  3. Sharing this game. This sounds like fun!

  4. That sounds like an excellent game!
