New Kidney: Day 2

Wes slept really well last night.  They gave him some Benadryl at 11:30pm and apparently some of the nurses were having a hard time waking him up this morning. He really feels rested.

His creatine level (level that shows the kidney function) is still rising and elevated but it seems to be leveling off.  If it doesn’t begin to drop they may need to put him on dialysis to help remove the toxins from his body.  The reason they don’t want to do this, is because it can allow the kidney to remain “lazy” causing it to take longer for the kidney to start fully functioning.

Wes was able to wash up today.  Most of his tubes have been removed.  There is still the main line in his neck and one on his arm both maintaining 4 pumps running with fluids, medicines, and pain killer.  Of course there is always the catheter but he will have to live with that one for a few more days.  His urine output is still really good.

This afternoon he went for his first walk.  For those who know Jefferson, he did a complete circle on the 10th street side.  He started with a walker and about half way, he was walking on his own.  By the time he got back to his room, he was ready to be in his bed.  He did a great job!

For now he is taking an afternoon nap and waiting for a room outside of the ICU.  They have one for him but it needs to be cleaned and then he will be moved.  The kids are anxious to come see him but are not able to until he gets out of ICU.

  1. Grateful for the update!

  2. A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!! We have a large group of people up here and upper PA praying for you. One of my friends gave a kidney over a year ago and the donor is doing great. She is also is concerned for you. 35 years ago this week I was in the ICU and turned 30. Do the Coddington’s like this drama? I’ll never forget it and now looking back, 30 was a wonderful age. You will also look back and say getting closer to 40 was great!!! Karen you are a wonderful partner for Wes. God certainly gave you each other for your strengths and what you do for each other as support. I wish I could be there to give you a big kiss and hug but Karen do that for me will you and give yourself one from me as well. We love you both. Hope to get together with youall- maybe in July.

  3. Wow! Karen you are a trooper. I guess I should have known that from basketball days. Thanks for the update on Wes. This gives us so much more for which to pray. I am praying for both of you and the kids. I hope that all of you have a good night’s rest and that Wes will heal quickly.

    Lovingly,
    Marti

  7. I will pray that you do not need the dialysis….do not want that kidney being lazy! Glad to hear that you had a good day and that you got lots of rest. Just wanted to let you know that not only did I get the harmonica’s for the kids today but I found brain teaser games for Dakota..you know how he likes a challenge. Talk to you soon!

  8. Dear Wes,
Praying for you all! This is from Living the Divine Plan. # 2 of 5 promises to Help Stay on Track.
    2. Nothing can destroy you- God’s man, living in the center of God’s will, according to God’s plan, is immortal until God is through with him. If I am doing this, God is responsible to protect me until I’ve fulfilled His will for my life.Jesus understood this and never worried.
Since beginning to “position” as one of your prayer supporters this has entered my mind to send to you quite often. Doug & Grace are very dear to me so of course all of you are also! Praise God for intercessory pray! He is so awesome! Blessings on all of you!
    Love, The Leentjes
