New Challenge Ahead 6-25-10

Wes has been having some difficulty the last two times at dialysis with the placement of the needles. They have not been able to get a needle into the upper part of his arm.  One day they had to stop in the middle of his treatment and move the needle.  The second day as soon as they started the machine, his arm began to swell and they tried again but needed to move it lower in his arm.

Our new challenge is this, we will be gone this week.  While we are away, Wes will be going to 2 new dialysis units.  Besides having problems with getting a seat and scheduling, we are also concerned with having new nurses and the difficulties that can come with that.

Good news is, Wes’ current nurse is asking his doctor if he can go with just 2 treatments this week, Tues and Fri. That will alleviate all the rushing around to and from treatments between speaking engagements and the possibility of having a good week because dialysis takes so much out of him.

Wes will be speaking everyday, Mon – Thurs in Maryland(Sandy Cove) and then Fri-Sun in NY (Hofstra). We appreciate the prayers as this is our first trial run with dialysis on the go.  When we return they will begin the process of getting Wes ready to do home dialysis.  It is a 3 week process to get his arm ready and we need to meet with a home dialysis nurse who will explain how it works.

*Family*

Our kids have been having a great week with their cousin from Tennessee, Harrison and their cousin from Maryland, Lauren.  Time is passing quickly and the kids are spending every waking moment together.  Our kids always count down the days til they are going to be with their cousins or grandparents.  We have been blessed to have such great relationships between our families and both sides.

  1. Praying, and wow… speaking every day!! That’s awesome!!

Sorry to hear about your arm…

As far as the dialysis on the go, would your doctors/nurses be able to give you a copy of your dialysis history, so the new nurses know exactly what works & doesn’t work for you?

  2. Hey guys, our prayers are with you! strength, courage, perseverance and a whole lot of God’s love to you all.

  3. Uncle john was at a meeting last weekend up North. He had a fireman in his class that has been on dialysis for 12 years. He said it was the medicine that he had the most problem with. Once they conquered that he has been good. Hopefully it won’t be much longer that all the “bugs” are worked out. Love you guys and think of you all the time.Only God can give you the strength to endure . Why people don’t realize that they need his power and strength is beyond me. Wish we were closer to help out. Have a peaceful and restful time while the kids come north. We’ll get together with them . Tate and Luke love being with them.

  4. Praying for your strength and stamina. I know you have a good mind.
Enjoy your speaking engagements. You will be touching hearts and minds.

  5. That’s quite a schedule for someone in your situation. Will be praying for God to work in amazing ways that are least expected to provide for all your needs while on this trip.
Maybe He will even provide some new information with your Treatments.
    Bless you and yours,

  6. “May he give you the power to accomplish all the good things your faith prompts you to do” (2 Thess 1:11). Praying.

  7. Hope you guys had fun at Sandy Cove!
And thanks again for keeping Lauren for the week. She had a BLAST.
