Wes had his first dialysis treatment at his new center at 5:30 am. The staff was very friendly and we look forward to getting to know them over time. However, 10 min. into the treatment he began to get nauseous; they may have been a little too agressive with the machine. Wes said twice that he was going to throw up, but no one seemed too alarmed. In our opinion, they moved a little slow. Wes ended up vomiting all over his pants, shirt, and bed and then the bucket came. Wes was discouraged because now he had to sit in vomit for 3 hours and it seemed like it was easily avoidable. They did their best to clean him up but once the needles were in his arm, he could not remove his clothing. He still had a smile on his face when I left him at 6:30 am; its hard to keep him discouraged for too long.
I went home and got the kids ready for school and when they took off, I went to the store to get Wes new clothes. He was wearing the only set of sweat pants that are comfortable in his current condition.
I picked Wes up around 9:30am. We got a chance to meet his new, local neuphrologist, Dr. Pat. She seems really nice, knowledgeable, and caring and one more person to add to our prayer adoption list (we will update soon). On the way home Wes was throwing up out the car door repeatedly. It was a long trip home (see tomorrow’s post “Red Lights!!”). I dropped Wes off at the house and left to do childcare for our ladies bible study.
Around noon, I got a text from Wes saying that I need to come home immediately. Apparently, he had spent the last 2 hours light-headed and with his whole body tingling. He tried to sleep it off but when he woke up he felt the same and called the doctor immediately. Dr. Pat took a break from a lecture she was teaching to call him back. Her remedy: chicken noodle soup! She suspected his electrolytes were off due to an adjustment they will need to make to his dialysis machine. Within 20 min. of eating the soup Wes was almost back to normal. He then spent the afternoon in bed sleeping as did Kasey and I. Just before the kids came home he took some pain killers because Wednesday night is Family Night!
We had a great night. We played whiffle ball in the driveway (Wes sat in lawn chair and reffed). We had a delicous home-made meal delivered by a family from our church (thank you Bud and Paula – the kids loved it and so did we). We then watched a kids video on Faith and had a great discussion about current events in our family.
So while the day had a real rough start it had a good family ending.

I guess those old Jewish ladies knew what they were talking about! Better keep a case load of that stuff around!
I am so glad you were able to spend time as a family. I hope you have a wonderful day today.
Where’s your fruit syrup? Of course, chicken noodle soup is better for you! Don’t forget to eat. I’m betting not much of an appetite, but your body is still in turmoil from being assaulted and you need to keep fueling up…Miss you!
Wes,
So sorry to hear you are so sick. Thank God for your loving family He has provided to care for you. We will continued to pray for you and yours and remember this will bring glory to God. (Roms 8:18)
