Red Lights & Stop Signs

Wes informed me that when we are in the car, what hurts his surgery site most is the stopping and starting of the car.  So here we were Wednesday morning, our first day traveling to dialysis at 5:00am, thinking there shouldn’t be any traffic and all should go smoothly.  Wouldn’t you know it, we had to stop at EVERY single traffic light!  So when I picked him up at 9:30, we decided to go a different route that had less lights but we forgot about those pesky stop signs every block. Wes struggled with pain the entire trip.

Once again we had to take the small, pesky things in life and try to accept them as opportunity for growth.  We could both complain and let it ruin our day, but in the end, laughing and hurting together proved to be a much better reward.  Besides, what good can really come from a negative, angry attitude?  Exactly, nothing.  You still have the stop lights and pain, and now you hate the world and no one wants to be near you.

  1. Sometimes slowing down helps to miss all the lights and stops. Love you guys.

  2. Aha! Now there is some gold in that advice…something I don’t do often enough! Thanks Aunt Ruthanne for all the love and encouragement, not just now but faithfully over the years, since I was little.

  3. Nah 1:7 The LORD is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him.
I am inspired by your faithful trust in our God and your ability to see past all the stop lights and travel the road God sets before you!
We are continuing to pray for you and your family.

You INSPIRE me! I so agree that we choose how to respond to circumstances and that these choices affect others, and ultimately our own level of joy. Thanks for choosing well and sharing.

  5. Praying daily for you as you go through the highways and byways and bumps…he promises to go with us through the flood and fire…and he does as you know. I will pray for smoother roads ahead as you heal. So very sorry for the pain.

  6. Wes, I hate to be the practical one…but put a pillow under you and one between you and the seat belt. Peter said it was the only way to travel!

You are both an inspiration to us all!

  7. I have read your passages. They are beautifully written and have a lesson for each of us. Thank you for sharing what you have learned and practices with me. I have passed your website on to others and raised you in prayer at our prayer shawl meetings. May the Son that shines in your heart bring you warm and ease the pain. Phyllis
